Now why are we talking about boots in the sky along with Solo NED for OTs? I'm sure you've read the article by Ron about boots in the sky. From it you see it's up to you, or up to each individual finally and ultimately to determine his own future and his own freedom.
Auditing and training are things which aid or enable a person to be able to move further forward toward the attainment of finally becoming himself; and obtaining the ultimate recovery — the abilities of full OT. But along with auditing and training, as the person's self-determinism and pan-determinism increase, it becomes more and more up to the individual to take over and start raising himself up. In other words, there comes a point where he puts on the boots and starts walking to freedom.
The dwindling spiral started a very long time ago — some universes ago. It wasn't caused by somebody else, so it's not surprising that one has to put on the boots and start walking at some point along the line.
Second wall of fire
When NED for OTs was originally released, it was called the second wall of fire. The reason is, a person goes Clear and he moves up through the OT levels. He goes through the first wall of fire (OT III) and becomes what we call a pre-OT. A pre-OT is somebody who's on the OT levels and who is now able to make further advances.
You might think such a person could do something like run various OT drills. This might be the processes in Ron's book THE CREATON OF HUMAN ABILITY; and he could simply improve himself as an OT and become more OT each day. He would be able to, if it weren't for certain factors which originated a very long time ago which booby trap the possibility of advancing upwards.
Any effort made by an individual to become an OT or to increase his OT powers results in a restimulation or re-enactment of certain factors set up long, long ago. We all carry these factors around with us to a greater or lesser degree. Some of them, more prominently than others; and depending on how things are going, even more in display or less in display. However — these things are carried along.
Any effort by the individual to expand as an OT results in him colliding with these little booby traps, and self limiting factors, which prevent him from moving on and further upward. So NOTs or NED for OTs was called the second wall of fire.
Breakthrough
Ron found a way to bypass the factors that prevent a person from discovering and handling these things, and make it possible to turn around, face these factors and handle them. That was a tremendous discovery in itself, because now it was possible for people to move up and to handle the major barrier or barriers toward the full attainment of OT. NOTs primarily deals with composite and compound factors which are the booby trap in between the being and moving on up to OT. That is what Ron resolved with NOTs.
Other factors
The Mark VI, which Ron was researching and developing in 1978, supercedes the Mark V. A Mark VI meter and solo electrode is far more sensitive and reads far more deeply on the bank than a Mark V will. It's possible to solo audit in the upper OT levels with a Mark VI meter, whereas it isn't with a Mark V. So one reason we didn't have solo NOTs before was because we didn't have a meter capable of handling it.
Another factor is that we're not in the state we're in for no reason. It has taken a long, long time for beings to come down the dwindling spiral to the state of humanoid. During that time they have built up tremendous amounts of charge on various things.
Long ago, various factors were set up to bobby trap us so nobody would ever be able to get out. It wouldn't be true to say that individuals, particularly those people here, thought up the idea. There is an element of causation, of course, that each of us carries along with us; and an element of responsibility in the matter. These factors are such that if an individual, even though Clear and a pre-OT, were to seek to try and handle these factors, the booby trap would come into operation, and he wouldn't be able to do it. Hence the necessity to have an auditor to audit the pre-OT on NOTs.
That is still true today. It is necessary to have an auditor to do the beginning steps of NOTs. This way you can bypass and have more theta available to handle and overcome these barriers or booby traps in the mind. There is a rule in the book DIANETICS, THE ORIGINAL THESIS which says that “auditor plus PC is greater than the bank”, and that is primarily the rule that operates in NOTs. The combined theta of the auditor and the theta of the pre-OT together are able to overcome these barriers or booby traps in the mind and handle them.
The NOTs case
In auditing NOTs, there is this large thing we could call the NOTs case. As you get more and more NOTs auditing, of course, this NOTs case is becoming less and less. At the same time the pre-OT is becoming more and more. At a certain point, the pre-OT becomes more powerful than the remaining bank or charge that's left. At this point it becomes possible for the pre-OT to turn around and on his own, unaided by an auditor, to be able to face this charge and handle it. It is actually more optimum for a pre-OT at this point to solo audit the level. Partly, because his own power has increased to a point where he can do it.
When a person's power and responsibility come up to a point where he is capable of handling more, it's always advisable to allow the person to do so. By doing so, he I tends to increase his power even more. It is also a very good thing from the point of view of the person gaining more and more confidence in his ability to handle factors which have had him licked for several universes. It gives one quite a resurgence of confidence in self.
Another breakthrough
Ron not only developed the Mark VI E-Meter which was capable of registering at this level, but he also developed a technique by which a pre-OT, who now had the power to be able to face these things, could be able to handle them. It was a specialized technique for solo auditing. He refined this until he got a very successful technique.
Now, there is a wide difference between something that Ron is capable of using as a solo technique and what you or I would like to take on and try to do. So he further refined it to a point where it could be written down, communicated and trained on others. He wanted to make the Solo NOTs technique available generally to everybody.
Then there was the task of working out what it would take to train to solo audit NOTs successfully. This would include those who had no auditor training, no NOTs training and had, perhaps, simply gone up the solo route through Clear and OT. Finally, we had a very workable course and checksheet for Solo NOTs training.
Mark VI essential
Before a person approaches the Solo NOTs Course, he is trained on the Hubbard E-Meter Course. With a very sensitive meter like the Mark VI it is quite necessary the auditor be accurate in being able to read the meter. Some people might feel they've learned to use an E-Meter in the past to some degree. However, I can assure you it is very necessary to get thoroughly and properly trained on a Mark VI before starting the Solo NOTs Course.
The way a person gets onto Solo NOTs is he gets around 50 or so hours of auditing on NOTs by an auditor. This would vary from one individual to another, but that would be a general figure. Somewhere along the rundown, the person will reach a point where several conditions have been satisfied. He reaches a certain point on the program; he reaches a certain stature or ability and power as a being himself, and the remaining NOTs case has diminished to a very large degree at this point. The person is given case OK to go onto the NOTs Solo Auditor's Course.
Special OT drills
Now the course not only contains all the essentials and training necessary to enable the person to be able to audit the technique, but it also contains OT drills which make him capable of handling it.
As a side benefit, these specially developed OT drills give one quite a substantial gain in life too. In fact, one of the students recently on the Solo NOTs Auditor's Course here described one of the drills as equivalent to a 12½ hour intensive. Another student who did these OT drills said that she felt doing these OT drills was the same as doing an OT level. There is considerable and major case gain made on these drills alone.
The fundamental mistake a thetan can make
Another benefit contained in this course is the considerable amount of data, theory and the basic principles of life and of the subject of NOTs. As mentioned earlier, long, long ago mistakes were made. Obviously it would be a great advantage to know what these mistakes were, how to anticipate them and how not to make them again in the future.
Actually, there is one very, very fundamental mistake that a thetan can make. The data on this is covered in the Solo NOTs Auditor's Course. It puts one in a position where we can say that the course and the data on it is not just for this lifetime, but for the next lifetime and the next and so on. This is because one is now in a position where he is capable of facing the future and being able to handle these factors or various things when he runs into them from here on out!
It's quite different from doing various other OT levels where one studies various materials and learns to use those and handle that subject matter and then that's the end of that. On this one, one actually gains data, knowledge and skills which he can use from here on out should he run into these factors again. Of course that is a very desirable thing to have — a very desirable way to be.
Grooving in
On completion of the Solo NOTs Course there is what is called “groove-in auditing”, which is done by an auditor, specially trained to do it. This gets the pre-OT rolling on this specialized technique. As soon as things are running smoothly; on that, the groove-in auditing is ended and the Solo NOTs Auditor gets his folder and away he goes. And I mean away he goes!
Spectacular powerful sessions
One of the things about NOTs is it is a very long program. There is no point in trying to hurry through NOTs or to quickie it. Do a thorough job on NOTs and take it to its full End Phenomena rather than try to get through very fast.
On this level, the sessions are dynamite! We now have somebody in a position where he is powerful and capable enough to handle this himself. He is directly in communication with all of the factors involved in this — whether they exist in present time or did so long ago. He is, because of this, able on his own to handle them very efficiently and rapidly. Especially as he has learned the technique and knows what he's doing from what he learned on the course. Auditing on Solo NOTs actually becomes more efficient in terms of amount of gains per unit of time than professionally audited NOTs can.
Several major OT levels
One of the reasons the NED for OTs rundown is long is because it is the equivalent of several major OT levels, It is not a single level. You may have heard the term “rest points” on NOTs. Rest points are points where a person could be audited up to, and then he could take a rest from the auditing and go home. He could do other things, and come back later to resume his auditing. Ron clarified this. He pointed out that these rest points were not in fact simply rest points: they were actually points of major case change and the attainment of the equivalent of an OT level. So the person on NOTs is going through several major levels of case change.
The powers and abilities of an OT are everything that you think they are. The amount of change necessary to go through in order to get to that is a very vast amount of change. As one goes through their various changes, one has to become accustomed to them, familiar with them and use them. Therefore, very often, both on audited NOTs and on Solo NOTs, sessions are ended on major points of case change.
Sometimes one has to wait for a persistent F/N to subside. This could be hours, days or it could be a long time. The point here is not to try particularly to complete the level. The idea here is to move on and handle all of the barriers which would get in one's way to becoming full OT. And that's what one can accomplish.
There are, of course, other OT levels above NOTs and Solo NOTs. There are actually a great many OT levels above them. Many! A lot of them are sitting, waiting, available for when people are ready for them.
A little secret
In the Boots in the Sky article, there was a point where Ron said something to the effect that one had to take responsibility not only for himself, but also for his fellows in order to be able to walk through to final freedom. This is very true, especially in NOTs auditing where one is not only dealing with factors within himself, but also factors pertaining to others.
You may have seen HCOB 30 July 80, by Ron, called the “Nature of a Being”. In this bulletin he points out that man is a very complex composite of factors along the lines of various identities or valences* (*Valence: a valence is a false or true identity. The preclear has his own valence. Then there are available to him the valences of all persons who appear in his engrams.) which have been built up; and which have existed for a very long time. Also that one has to be able to take responsibility for and become cause over and handle these factors.
I could let you in on a little secret here. It's because of that, that the End Phenomena of NOTs is described in Ron's Journal in 1978 as the very “living lightning of life itself”. It is stuff to do with Theta, life units and so on. It's the thing which determines the state or condition of any being or entity. On Solo NOTs, one is dealing with some pretty high powered stuff. He is taking responsibility not only for his own condition and his own state of being, but also that of others, both now and long ago.
You've probably heard many maxims, all of which have some kind of a theme that it's better to do something right the first time. Leave it behind you and sooner or later it has to be picked up and handled again. Of course this is very true of this. Not all beings have always been responsible. Many of them have fallen by the wayside, and some went down further than others, and some are still going down at a mad fast rate trying to take everyone with them. That all has to do with this booby trap about how an isolated individual or an individual Scientologist can't actually break free until he takes responsibilities for this factor. I'm sorry I can't be more descriptive about that, but that's what is dealt with in NOTs. You'll find out the details as you get on it, if you're not on it already.
Length of time
In practical terms a person could come, and can come now, and do the training on the E-Meter course. The first people through the Solo NOTs Auditor Course have taken less than one week to do it full time. Each of these, of course, was already a trained auditor. Anticipate that it would take anybody, including those who have had no auditor training whatsoever, to do it in less than two weeks full time.
So what we are looking at here is the possibility that a person could come and within two or three weeks complete his training, the Solo NOTs Auditor's Course and he could solo audit to a point of major case change — all inside two to three weeks. Then he could return home to handle other commitments and return later here to continue Solo NOTs. Of course, this is a very important factor in terms of everyday practicalities.
Effect on civilization
If you know anything about NOTs, it has an awful lot to do with the subject of converting entheta into theta. It does an awful lot of that at a very fast rate. This in itself must have a tremendous impact on the whole of society and civilization on the planet.
It has been known for quite some time that when the first Clear was made, and then the next several Clears were made, (in 1965) that things started to go better in their area. As more and more people went through the Clearing Course and returned to their area, it was noticed that various environmental changes occurred simply because there were now Clears operating in the area.
The presence of a Clear has a destimulating or uplifting effect. The presence of an OT has an even more destimulating effect. A person auditing on NED for OTs, whether they are being audited by an auditor or whether they are Solo Auditing on NED for OTs, is actually, along with other things, releasing or converting vast amounts of entheta into pure and free theta. This itself will have quite an impact on others around, and on society and civilization as a whole.
There is this other factor that we keep looking at, that the large number of people who are being audited on and handled on NOTs at any given time is in itself going to have quite an impact on society. LRH predicted this about two years ago. He pointed out that we would start seeing various things occurring along this line. Some of them have been more noticeable than others. Persons on, or who have been audited on, NOTs will have recognized these things. Of course, they are of benefit to all.
As pointed out earlier, there is this factor of one taking responsibility not only for himself, but also for others. It is not an onerous or burdensome thing. In fact, it's quite a source of pride and pleasure for one to know that in doing so, one is not only raising oneself up, but is also raising others up too. This has quite an effect generally. NOTs and auditing on NOTs is to some degree a first dynamic activity; but to a very large degree it is a third dynamic activity. So, there will be an overall effect as a result from it.
Availability
Currently, and for quite some time to come, (I would imagine a matter of years) Solo NOTs will probably only be available at Flag. It takes quite a large number of delivery personnel in order to handle this level, so I'm afraid it will only be available at Flag in the foreseeable future. But, there will be a large number of people who can get audited on NOTs, then come here to do the Solo NOTs Auditor training, and then move on through.
Final details
I suppose a lot of people are wanting to know how long it will take to get through Solo NOTs. That is a very difficult question to answer. An educated guess and very wise prediction would be in the vicinity of around 100 hours. Of course, one could look at this from the point of view of: “Oh, it's going to take 100 hours to do.” Or, you could get onto the level and start doing it and realize that if you are going to get as much gain as you are going to get in a twenty minute session multiplied by however many twenty minutes there are in 100 hours, then looking at it that way, that is an awful lot of case gain. That is an awful lot of advancement toward OT that's available on the level. Quite astounding actually!
I think that pretty much covers the subject of what Solo NOTs auditing is all about. It is C/Sed, of course by a Solo NOTs C/S, and all the usual rules of auditing and C/Sing apply. As to what you actually put your attention on, what you do and what you write down on your worksheets — you're going to have to do the course to find out about it.
