Index:
Introduction
The reason for me acquiring various materials is two-fold. One is for the purpose of having the original technology available for consultation and use, and secondly to seek information from various materials for historical research purposes as undertaken and set forth on this website.
It is reality that the technology has undergone various changes and has been subjected to various approaches. These changes and/or adjustments may have been advantages and thus in line of a natural positive development, but various things that have come to light in my researches may also indicate a downgrade at various time intervals.
For this valid reason therefore it is recommended to have this information available and thus being able to catch up with that which one did not know about or may have been lost on the way. Further considering that: |
|
“The basics and fundamentals are stated early in the period of development and have not changed. ... |
|
|
That things which were true early in the subjects are still true.” LRH
(from HCOB 12 Jun 70 “Programming of Cases”) |
|
|
“Inevitably, when any new approach or process is released, some will instantly assume that all ‘older’ (actually more basic) data has been cancelled. There is no statement to that effect.” LRH
(from HCOB 30 Jun 70R (Revised 6 Mar 73) “VIII Actions”) |
|
A crucial point in the development of the technology obviously has been at such time that the following was announced: |
For this reason the focus is particularly on materials from the period 1968-73.
Do you want to help me?
What is wanted is information from original publications. What follows is a listing of exact issues that I would like to consult. |
Preferred is the actual issues themselves, or photocopies from these. An alternative is scannings of the actual issues.
I like to be as close as possible to the actual published issues. Naturally I am willing to reimburse you for any costs you will make (copying, postage cost if sending by mail to me, etc.).
You can send these to me in preferably good quality jpg image format. I will honour if you choose to remain anonymous. I will also do not give out any of your personal data to any third parties. |
You may also offer me items for sale, for this you may want to look at my actual book & publications want list. Send email. |
Thank you in advance for any help you are able to give me!

HCOBs: Jan 59 to Sept 77) [most priority are any HCOB packs dating 1968 to 1974] |
Any miscellaneous compilation of original references from so about prior to 1977 could be of interest. In particular any sort of course checksheets from the period 1969-73.
Miscellaneous printed materials (Clear hat)
The ones foregoing with an asterisk (*) are highest priority!
* |
“Clear Check Hat” materials in use during late 1966 and well into 1967. This could be HCO PLs, HCOBs or in other formats. Most likely however these were some kind of hat write-ups. |
► (2a) For research/historical purposes (general)
HCO Information Letters/Administrative Letters/News Letters, etc.
* |
HCO Information Letters, HCO Administrative Letters & HCO News Letters
All these most prominently from the period 1964 to about 1975. These were freely distrubuted to auditors in field that were having a franchise. They contain a lot of historical data from the day. |
Any miscellaneous compilation of additional odd issue-types such as Flag Orders etc. could be of interest.
Scientology magazines
Various type of magazines are and can be of interest. Most prominently probably are a variety of numbers of ‘Certainty’ (’50s) and ‘Clear News’ (’60s/’70s). Then ‘Ability’ and ‘The Auditor’. If you have materials, then tell what you have, and I will look at it.
Advance! magazines with inserts. I am in particularly looking for the following inserts (or complete with the magazine) of the AOLA (US version) of the magazine Advance!. Pricings found on these inserts will be given in US$. |

|
(at least #75, 77, 80, 83-86 are suspected to have this donation listing as a coverprotection holding the magazine itself (attached with staples), pricings are then found on the inside of this cover) |
Miscellaneous printed materials (for research)
Any data or materials (dated checksheets or other) that confirms if the Primary Rundown was a service that actually could be taken or not during early ’80s. Then any data about why and when this rundown was discontinued.
Finally if you have materials that for some reason you think may be of interest. Feel free to let me know.

Grade charts
|
Since basically 1965, when the first grade chart was issued, it has gone through a variety of changes. These give a very interesting insight in the development of that thing called the Bridge. |
A chronological list of grade charts known to have been released is listed here (separate window). Any chart not listed there naturally would be of interest for me to acquire and examine.
Sought after actual printed copies of grade charts: |
* |
1966 [early] |
There may have been 3 grade charts issued in 1966.
SHSBC lecture 71 (renumbered 434) “The Classification Chart and Auditing”, 26 Jul 66 notes: “since the interim issue of early 1966 dropped several points off this chart that were vital to it and made it relatively unworkable”. It is most probable that the not mentioning of Dianetics that had made it relatively unworkable.
I have: A grade chart ©1966 [Jul/Aug?], UK.
Published by the Hubbard Communications Office World Wide. Printed by St. Clements Press Ltd., London, England that does list the ‘Dianetic Auditor’ and ‘Dianetic Release’. Then there is another grade chart issued with date “1st December 1966”. |
* |
1st December 1969, [UK] |
This probably is the UK release of the September 1969 ASHO LA or of the March 1970 AOLA chart. |
* |
Flag, June 1970 (©1970)
Composition by Athena Publications.
Printed in Denmark by Fritz Schur A/S |
I do have an actual copy of this, however I would be interested to find a copy in very good condition that can be folded up following the original fold lines. |
* |
1976 (©1974 and 1976), California
Scientology Publications Organization, Copenhagen 1976 |
Presently only known in German language, it may or may not exist as an English release with this year. |
* |
©1970, 1974, 1980 [Dec]
Produced by the Flag Marketing Bureau |
Sought after is the handy small size (folded) version as advertized in ‘Ability 344’, [Dec 80] |
* |
Flag, 19 January 1982 (©1982) Temporary Issue |
As HCOB 19 Jan 82 “New – Streamlined Classification and Gradation Chart” with respectively 8 and 12 pages (Grade and Class Chart). Sought after is the original release. |
* |
©1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 [1st half] |
Only version known to me of this Grade Chart is actually in German. An English version is unconfirmed to exist and may not have been issued. |

Sound recordings (other persons)
|
Searched is for all sorts of odd internal or public recordings made from briefings and any other that were given att events at the Church of Scientology generally from the 1950 to about 1986. This would included Diana Hubbard, Quentin Hubbard and David Mayo, or any other person that have held such things. Many of these have been recorded on tape, often issued on reel to reel, but are today not all that easily available. |

Vocabulary:
..R, ..RA, ..RB (etc) or #R, #RA (etc):
For example: ‘HCO PL 24 Sept 70R’ & ‘HCO PL 24 Sept 70RA’, etc. The given date denotes the first time it has been published in issue-form. The R, RA indication may also follow after an issue-number. The R stands for ‘Revision’ and would refer to that it has been revised since it was first published.
If it is revised a 2nd time it is indicated as RA, a 3rd time RB, then RC, and so on.
BPL:
‘Board Policy Letter’. Color flash–green ink on cream paper. These are the issues of the Boards of Directors of the Churches of Scientology and are separate and distinct from HCO Policy Letters written by LRH. Only LRH issues may be printed green on white for policy and only LRH issues may have the prefix HCO. These Board issues are valid as Policy. (BPL 14 Jan 74R I, New Issues).
This issue-type was established in January 1974. In October 1975 a project was started to cancel HCO PLs not written by L. Ron Hubbard and if still found being of value having them reissued as BPLs. By 1980 all BPLs had been revoked.
BTB:
‘Board Technical Bulletin’. Color flash–red ink on cream paper. These are the issues of the Boards of Directors of the Churches of Scientology and are separate and distinct from HCO Bulletins written by LRH. Only LRH issues may be printed green on white for Technical Bulletins and only LRH issues may have the prefix HCO. These Board issues are valid as tech. (BPL 14 Jan 74R I, New Issues).
This issue-type was established in January 1974. In December 1974 a project was started to cancel HCOBs not written by L. Ron Hubbard and if still found being of value having them reissued as BTBs. By 1980 all BTBs had been revoked.
HCOB:
‘Hubbard Communications Office Bulletin’. Color flash–red ink on white paper. Written by LRH only , but only so starting from January 1974. These are the technical issue line. All data for auditing and courses is contained in HCOBs. For more information go here (separate window).
HCO PL:
‘Hubbard Communication Office Policy Letter’. Color flash–green ink on white paper. Written by LRH only, but only so starting from January 1974. These are the organizational and administrative issue line. For more information go here (separate window).
org(s):
Short for ‘organization(s)’.
original mimeo print-off:
Individually printed issues and distributed from the Mimeo Section of the Scientology organization as opposed to those collected in volumes. These are the issues that you may regard as the real first prints. As a rule these are typed out, mimeographed and distributed as soon as possible after having been compiled or written. They are always legal-sized, 8½ by 14 inches (approx. 21,6 x 35,6 cm). If the issue had 3 or more sides, the pages were collated and stapled together in the upper left corner. More detailed information about this is found here (separate window).
Qual (Div):
‘Qualifications Division’. 1. It could be called the correction division or the adjustment division. But qualifications would also serve. (SH Spec 77, 6608C23) 2. The Qual Division monitors not only technical quality and honesty but the administrative quality and honesty of the entire organization. HCO establishes the org, but Qual makes it run. (BPL 22 Nov 71R) 3. The division where the student is examined and where he may receive cramming or special assistance and where he is awarded completions and certificates and where his qualifications as attained on courses or in auditing are made a permanent record. (HCOB 19 Jun 71 III)
Qual Library:
‘Qualifications Library’. Located in Division 5 (Qualifications Division), Department 14 (Dept. of Correction). 1. There is a Qual Librarian, whose duties are essentially those of a librarian, collecting up the materials, logging and storing them safely, making up cross reference files so that the material can be easily located. (BPL 21 Jan 73R, Use the Library to Restore Lost Technology) 2. Now that takes an interesting librarian because he's the Technical Information Center. (7109C05 SO, A Talk on a Basic Qual) 3. Qual is in the business of finding and restoring lost tech. (BPL 22 Nov 71R, Qual Org Officer/Esto)
Saint Hill Special Briefing Course (SHSBC):
This was a course delivered by L. Ron Hubbard at Saint Hill, England during 1961-66 and comprises of 447 lectures. Its result is a very adept auditor and thorough know-how of Scientology itself. The materials are studied in chronological sequence so as to fully understand the development of the technology. This will make you a Class VI Auditor.
